A World Without Sunshine

In Ray Bradbury short story "All Summer in a Day" We find pour selves in Venus were a human civilization has been set but in Venus it only rains without stopping for seven years until for one hour the sun comes up.The story talks about a little girl who was born in earth and knows how sun really feels like that is why her classmates hate her. The day the sun is supposed to come up they lock her up in a closet and go outside to enjoy the hour of sun they have every seven years. When the hour is over all the children start crying and remember they locked Margo in the closet and go unlock her that is where the story ends.

In Bradbury's story we can find a lot of imagery that is what makes him famous as an author. The use on imagery  in his stories does not only bring to life the story but also makes us think we are there in the story like in the next quote."It was as if, in the midst of a film concerning an avalanche, a tornado, a hurricane, a volcanic eruption, something had, first, gone wrong with the sound apparatus, thus muffling and finally cutting off all noise, all of the blasts and repercussions and thunders, and then, second, ripped the film from the projector and inserted in its place a beautiful tropical
slide which did not move or tremor (3)."

Bradbury is in this quote referring to the sense of hear to enhance what the children heard when the rain finally stopped and make the reader realize how hard and long it rained in Venus. Also by writing this he is able to make the reader picture and hear in his mind how rain or hurricane sounds.Furthermore in the story we can also see a lot of characteristic so that the reader can picture how the character is like in his personality or physically. For example:
"He gave her a shove. But she did not move; rather she let herself be moved only by him and nothing else. They edged away from her, they would not look at her. She felt them go away (2)."

This shows us that Margo is strange and different from all the children born in Venus and the kids do not like her or are jealous because she has felt the sun before. By looking at this quote we can see that Margo is shy and is not like the other children. We can see she is ashamed in front of her classmates because of being different and lonely because there is no one like her.

This story shows us a great message that nothing is forever and we should enjoy the moments we have. Also it gives us the theme of importance of memories. If we whine and cry about what we don't have and don't tank what we have then when we loose it we will have nothing to thank for. The imagery and characterization found on the short story does not only bring it to life but also makes us picture and feel as if we were there making the story a delight to read.

Release

It has happened a lot since Jonas has not been drinking his stirring pill. After some days the elders declared an unscheduled Holiday in which kids and adults could rest, After Jonas found his friends he found them playing a warfare game which made Jonas very disappointed and sad that they didn't know what they were really playing. Jonas wanted to know about the failure ten years before so he asked the giver who she was and he told him she was called Rosemary and that she was released together with the memories which returned to the people. It has been a while since Jonas has been wondering about what release meant so he asked The Giver and both watched a video of the release his father had accomplished that morning.  This was the way Jonas understood that release meant death and became really disappointed with his father for lying about it. That same night The Giver and Jonas made a plan so that Jonas could escape to elsewhere and bring all the memories back to the people. At the end of the chapter the Giver left us with a huge discovery which states that Rosemary was his daughter.

"As he continued to watch, the new child, no longer crying, moved his arms and legs in a jerking motion. Then he went limp. His head fell to the side, his eyes half open. Then he was still" (Lowry 150).

This is really sad and made think that if they do not know how to respect a life how they will respect their own life. But we also have to consider that it is the only reality they know and they think that what there are doing is right. Even doe if a war happened they will kill a lot of people and wouldn't have guilt about it because they don't have a religion to tell them what is right and what isn't including they don't have the memories. This shows us the importance of memory cause without them people do not know what they are really doing and what it means they don't even understand that it’s a life what they are taking away. Memories are the ones that tell us what we did wrong on the past so that we don't do it again and makes us realize the feeling we have toward that memory.

On the next chapters I predict Jonas will escape safely to elsewhere causing the memories to return to the people who react on panic and cause a civil war. Jonas hearing of what has happened returns to the community to find the giver but he finds himself with the news he has been released. Now it is Jonas job to help the people and find a new receiver so to pass his memories to when he grows , he chooses Gabe and decides to raise him as a son and marry Fiona breaking the rules of the family unit form. All the community while change to how it was before when all the people had the memories available.

The Memorys of Love

It has been some time since Jonas has been receiving memories from the Give even the most painful , Jonas has started to see his community is not so perfect as he though it was. One night that Gabe was sleeping in his room he started crying Jonas picked him up and thought about a lake instantly the memory started to fade and go to to Gabe , from this on Jonas has started giving memories to Gabe to make him sleep. Afraid to tell the Giver he keep the secret to himself ; the next day he arrives to the Annex and sees the Giver in  a very strong pain and decided to receive the memory of warfare to relieve the Giver. After giving him the memory of warfare the Giver felt guilty and gave him the memory of Christmas and grandparent ; making Jonas want a true family and feel love. Jonas after feeling love asks his parents "Do you Love me?" his parents told him to use precise language making Jonas feel unloved. The next morning he did not drink his pill so to feel stirrings again.

After learning about love Jonas goes to his parents and asks them:
 Do you love me?
There was an awkward silence for a moment. Then father gave a little chuckle "Jonas. You of all people. Precision of language, please!

After reading this quote it made me think that the community makes citizens feel that loving some one is wrong or incorrect so that way they can control them to marry who they don't love or to do think they don't love. Also it made me think that loving someone shouldn't be wrong because sometimes love is what pushes us to do things we didn't expect to do.In our community love is what unites people together , but in Jonas society what unites them together is the fear to do something wrong. Citizens are so worried of not breaking a rule that they don't realize what is happening around them and don't do nothing to gain the opportunity to choose.

On the next chapters i predict Jonas will tell Ash what he is learning on his training that is why he will be punished by the elders and will have to go live with the Giver. Also i think he will tell Fiona what he feels for her and will make her not drink the pill anymore like him. The Giver will find out Jonas has given his memorys to Gabe and will become really angry with Jonas that he will not train him anymore. In conclusion i predict Jonas will go to elswhere to find out what happens over there.

The Color Palette

It has been a while since Jonas received his assignment as receiver of memory but still he was astonished by the rules that he was given including the rule of a lauding him to lie. On his first day of training he meet the Giver which on his first trail gave him the memory's of snow , hills and sled which did not exist on the community due to the rule of sameness and climate control. Then the Giver transmitted him the memory of sunshine , sky and the first painful memory a sun burn. After this first impressions he came back the next day riding with Fiona but when she entered the house of old her hair changed giving to Jonas the sensation he had about what he thought was see beyond. But really when he entered the room with the giver he understood he was starting to see colors instead of black and white as the rest of the community.

On the book the author states the following "Of course. When you receive the memories. You have the capacity to see beyond. You'll gain wisdom, then, along with colors. And lots more" (Lowry 95). By reading this quote it made think about individuality and how the community takes it away to make all of the citizens look equal. It also made me think that the community of elders hasn't achieved a perfect sameness that is why some people such as Jonas can see colors.  Furthermore The quote made me feel gratefully of seeing on colors that is why we can see how things around us look or even see the emotions on persons face.

I predict that Jonas will break a rule by telling Fiona about the colors he can see , i also think that the friendship of Jonas with Asher will be broken because Asher would be ashamed of being Jonas friend. I also think Jonas will become rude because of the pressure his parents put on him to tell them about his training that is why i think he will leave his house and go live with the Giver. Not only by living together the Giver and Jonas will form a link and will become really connected.

Seeing Beyond

I am currently on chapter eight of the Giver in this chapters many impacting events had happened starting from the starting stirrings of Jonas for Fiona. Also the starting of the ceremony days in which the book details what happens in each years ceremony s starting from the one to the twelves. On chapter six we also learn how spouses are chosen and how Gabe is given an extra year to complete the expectations to have a family. But when it is Jonas turn to receive his assignment the elder skipped her number leaving him without an assignment, util the end in which he is announced to be selected to be the next receiver of memory. The elder specify s that Jonas has to have no contact with his family or friends until his training has been finished, also including he has the ability to see beyond.

On the book the author states the following "I don't understand it yet. I don't know what it is. But sometimes i see something. And maybe it is beyond" (Lowris 64).After reading this phrase i thought that what Jonas says as seeing beyond is that he sees how things change while others don't. Also I think that Jonas sees what he sees because he thinks different from the rest of the community or even he was born to be a receiver of memory so that way he was able to develop that quality.

After Jonas receiving his assignment i predict he will move to the old receiver of memory's house so to learn and that after a while they will become really close like father a son.I think Jonas will learn his job and succeed but in the way he will find obstacles that impede him to be happy like having a family unit.I also predict that he and Fiona will want to marry but it is against the rules so he will break them changing the community's customs and ways of thinking.

The Apple

On the past weeks i have been reading the Giver, I have learned Jonas community and their form of living. Jonas community as i learned recently is a very strict community in which citizens have to follow a lot of rules and accomplish ceremony's to get their assignment. Jonas is very apprehensive about his twelve ceremony (when they receive their assignment), his parents to make him unworried try to explain what is going to happen when he receives his assignment. His parents explain that assignments are choose by what you are interested on and where you decide to spend your volunteer hours. The thing is that Jonas has spent his volunteer hours in every place on the community. After some time his "father" brings a child from the Nurturing Center home so that he can feed him better ;his father breaking a rule discovered the baby's name (Gabriel) so that the baby can feed better and wouldn't be released.A peculiar thing about the baby is that he has the same ayes as Jonas(blue)that is very strange because most of the community has them dark. While going to do his volunteer hours Jonas talks to an old woman (Larrisa) who explains what is having a meaningful life in the community.

While reading the book i discovered a quote that states the following: "But suddenly Jonas had noticed, following the path of the apple through the air with his eyes, that the piece of fruit had-well,this was the part that he couldn't adequately understand-the apple had changed (Lowry 24)". After reading this quote i made me think about the form of life in which people change such as the apple or that being different from others is what makes you special. Also being different is what gives gives you identity.

The first chapters have been really interesting on the ways that you don't understand many thing and you what to continue reading so to know what they mean. As a prediction of what is going to happen on the next chapters i think that Jonas is going to find out what does it mean been released. Also i think a new character will be introduced (Fiona) a girl that maybe Jonas could have a crush on.What i am sure of is that the next chapters will not only impact Jonas life but also change the community.

Introducing The Giver by Lois Lowry

I am currently going to start reading the the Giver and before i start i want to "interview" the book. I after seeing the front cover i think the story is about an old man that wants to changes his form of living. But after "interviewing" the book i realized it is not about what it thought it would be actually it is about a young boy. Also i realized its as an adventure book with a lot of values and morals inside of it. On the dedication page Lois states the following "For all the children to whom we entrust the future." By saying this Lois says that he wrote this book for the young people that after he is gone will take the responsibility of the world.I think that by writing the book he is expecting young readers to create a better community and take care of the world such as he did.He also want kids to take care of him and other when they are old such as they did when we were young. After pre-reading the i predict that Jonas (the main character) is not happy with his life job that is why he starts revolting against the idea of the jobs being chosen by someone else; this brings problems that is why he has to hide and at the end he ends choosing what he wants to work at.
